Introduction


Aims and Objectives of the module:
This module is intended to introduce anyone about ethnic groups in Mongolia. It also will be an attempt to explore and explain cultural diversities and generalities of Mongolian various ethnic groups, also internal (group’s or clan’s tradition, history, modes of thought, sub-ethnic identity, kinship and marriage peculiarities) and external factors (natural and geographical, social, political and etc.) which influence to their cultural diversities.

We will attempt to explore and explain cultural diversities and generalities of Mongolian various ethnic groups, also internal (group’s or clan’s tradition, history, modes of thought, sub-ethnic identity, kinship and marriage peculiarities) and external factors (natural and geographical, social, political and etc.) which influence to their cultural diversities.

As being a country in social system transition, in contemporary Mongolia they have gradually been changing Mongolian ethnic identity, labor allotment, social ascribed and achieved statuses, roles, understanding about power, stratum and other many aspects.

As being a member a certain ethnic group who knows its tradition and culture you should contribute towards mutual understanding of diverse ethnic groups by presenting an online paper and submitting an essay about a group of your locality. Both an essay and a presentation MUST be very interesting, enriched by fieldwork data and other materials, cognitively and practically significant!!!

Activities and Tasks

Activity 1: Reading and Answering Questions
Using online and hard copy materials please answer following questions:
1. What Ethnic groups in Mongolia?
2. Where do these ethnic groups inhabit now? Where had they been inhabiting within last periods? and etc.

Activity 2: Fieldwork
1. Study basic methods of social and cultural anthropology
2. Conduct fieldwork among a ethnic group of your locality and make fieldwork report

Activity 3:
Essay writing and Analyzing of fieldwork results

Activity 4:
Dissemination of knowledge to others via internet


Task 1: Essay writing
All of Students and Learners have to submit an essay each. Lenth 1500-2500 words. See the "Essay guide" below. (Please send you essay to the following address: erdenetuya_u@yahoo.com as an attachment)

Task 2: Identifying ethnic groups by their traditional dress and main peculiarities: ...





Task 3: Fieldwork: Interview and Participant observation on a topic of a certain ethnic group. For example, Foods and Drinks of Ethnic Uzemchin, Dress of Ethnic Khoton and etc.
